EPISODE 52 | The Journey: Created for God's Purpose

Blessings everyone, my name is Ron Brown. Welcome to the weekly word podcast entitled The Journey Continues.

This week's message is The Journey: Created for God's Purpose.

Psalm 139: 16, 17, and 18 “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are Your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, You are still with me!”

As we prepare to step into a new year, there are many things unknown to us now that we’ll have to face and confront. It’s wonderful to know that we have a God who loves us, who has all power, wisdom, knowledge and goodwill towards us, because we are His children.

He is the author of New Beginnings, and nothing takes our Sovereign God by surprise. We must never forget that our God is the creator and sustainer of all life. He has so many purposeful and precious thoughts about each person He creates. He has endowed each of us with gifts, talents and anointing to become fruitful with our lives. In this passage, the Psalmist David is thoughtfully reflecting on just how great God really is.

At first reading of these words, it would appear that God had every detail of our lives planned out before we were born, and we have no choice but to follow along with a predetermined course. But I really believe David is worshipping from a deep place of understanding and knowledge revealed to him through the abiding presence of the Spirit of God.

When God created us, He gave us the ability to choose, even in the garden of creation. So, this passage is not about declaring that we no longer have any choices to make, but rather, there is a God-given purpose for each of us and God begins to impart grace to us even while we are being formed.

In Jeremiah chapter one, we're told that he was ordained or called to be a prophet to the nations while he was in his mother's womb. In order for this purpose to be fulfilled, Jeremiah would, after birth, need to make many choices to align himself so that he would arrive at the proper place, at the proper time, when he would be able to walk in this call.

God is gracious. He is filled with grace and truth, and in His compassion and loving kindness, He starts very early to set in motion His holy purposes for our lives. We still have to stay on a course of faithful obedience for those plans and thoughts of God to be fulfilled. Our choices move us along the pathway of life. Every soul has a purpose, and the enemy fights against that purpose, but God's purpose wins the day. God has created, God has spoken, God has imparted anointing and protection towards us, so that the very life that He wants us to live cannot be kept back from us.

As we continue to step into the new Year, let us pray that we will be faithful to accomplish what God recorded in His book for each day we are allowed to see. God is very much involved in the process of living, and He doesn't just show up for the big moments. Each day is filled with so much possibility for God.

Let's not miss a thing that the Lord wants to do in, through, and with our lives. Let’s prayerfully set our hearts to make the most of every opportunity He gives as we choose to follow, serve, and obey Him in this new season.

Let us pray:

“Lord, thank You for the journey. Lord, thank You for the purpose. Lord, thank You for Your wonderful thoughts that You have towards each of us as we step across the threshold of this new year. I pray God, that the eyes of our understanding will be enlightened so that we will know, perceive and understand the hope of our calling.  Lord bless all of my brothers and sisters and help us to move with sure-footed destiny towards the purpose that You have created us for, so that we will not be caught up in the trap of what's happening in the temporal surroundings that we face.  Give us your grace and give us your mercy, right from your throne room. We receive it by faith in Jesus’ name, Amen and amen!”
